There was once a mighty knight who dreamt of winning the great Battle of Ivy.

Intelligent, well read and knowledgeable, he had spent a huge fortune readying for the battle. In fact it might even be said that his whole life had been a preparation for this singular quest. Since there were many other knights with the same dream (many reputed to be as good as him) he had spared no efforts in his training.

At last everything was ready except his sword.

So he approached the best sword-smith in the land and requested him to undertake the task.

“Gladly, young knight.” said the master and quoted his price.

“What!? Why so high?”

“I am the best, brave knight. The best costs.”

“I have already spent so much. I don’t intend to spend too much more.”

“Perhaps that statement lacks the strength of logic,” said the master and then continued, “Brave knight, I not only sharpen your sword, I help re-craft your weapons in partnership with you, to fit your unique abilities. Besides, I am the best. The best costs.”

“You keep repeating that!”

“I believe I have earned the right!”

“Is that your final quote?” asked the knight.

“Yes, my knight. I do not negotiate.” replied the master.

The knight went away and used the services of a knife sharpener.
