ISB PGPMAX MBA Application Essays 2013-2014

The ISB PGPMAX essays remain the same following the major overhaul last year. Diverging from the more conventional approach that the ISB essays (for all programs including PGP and PGPMAX) have been veering towards in recent years, we have a case history! Somewhat similar to the Zumba River Dam question of yesteryears, the Mandalia essay challenges your imagination, intelligence and maturity. The leadership essay has the potential to be a strong essay. The essay questions could have been drafted better - questions 2 and 3 are unnecessarily confusing and repetitive. Though far from wholesome, the PGPMAX application essays will suffice to briefly and effectively portray your candidacy. Do your very best!

ISB PGPMAX Essay 1: What is your motivation to pursue a Post Graduate Program in Management for Senior Executives (PGPMAX)? (300 words max)

ISB PGPMAX Essay 2: What are some qualities that you do not have and wish to acquire which will help you become a more effective leader? What are some qualities that you do not have and wish to acquire which will help you become a more effective manager? Please explain in two separate paragraphs. (300 words max)

ISB PGPMAX Essay 3: There are 5 countries adjacent to each other on a large island. Out of these only one country (named Mandalia) is abundant in water sources and forests. The population in this country is very low. The other 4 countries are extremely poor, have a drought situation and people who are dying of hunger. However they have good soil and ground water but no electricity to pump this water out of the ground for agriculture. The only solution to solve the hunger in these countries is to build a dam in largest river in Mandalia. The drawback is major. Human population can be relocated, however all animals and plants, in Mandalia will be destroyed. They also cannot be relocated to another area as they cannot adapt to any other habitat. Your company has been shortlisted to build this dam. Unfortunately, the business is bad and your company needs this project to survive. The company will cease to exist if you do not accept this project. What decision will you take? Please explain with sound reasoning justifying your decision. (300 words max)

ISB PGPMAX Essay 4 (optional): The programme requires a lot of understanding of management theory and mathematical concepts. It also incorporates examinations and other forms of assessment. After many years of being away from formal studies, how do you plan to adjust to an extremely rigorous academic life and how can ISB be assured of you successfully completing the programme? (200 words max)

ISB PGPMAX Additional Information Essay (optional)

Please list any other attributes, achievements (professional or personal), awards, extra-curricular activities or activities outside workplace which you feel would add value to your application. (500 words max)

ISB PGPMAX MBA Application Essays 2011-2012

The first two ISB PGPMAX essays are the same as last year's and take the more conventional approach that the ISB PGP essays too have been veering towards in recent years. The Significant Achievement and Goals essays give considerable scope for an impressive introduction. The third essay is a new addition that asks an extremely valid question and is an excellent replacement for the somewhat confusing third-person-perspective question last year. Credit where its due - the PGPMAX team did a better work this year. And so should you! Do your very best!!

ISB PGPMAX Essay 1: What has been your most significant achievement to date? Please explain why you consider it to be so? (500 words)

ISB PGPMAX Essay 2: What is your motivation to pursue a Post Graduate Program in Management for Senior Executives? (500 words max)

ISB PGPMAX Essay 3: The programme requires a lot of understanding of management theory and mathematical concepts. It also incorporates examinations and other forms of assessment. After many years of being away from formal studies, how do you plan to adjust to an extremely rigorous academic life and how can ISB be assured of you successfully completing the programme? (500 words max)

ISB PGPMAX Essay 4 (optional): Please list any other attributes, achievements (professional or personal), awards, extra-curricular activities or activities outside workplace which you feel would add value to your application. (500 words max)

ISB PGPMAX MBA Application Essays 2009-2010

The ISB PGPMAX essays take the more conventional approach that the ISB PGP essays too have been veering towards recently. The Significant Achievement and Goals essays give considerable scope for an impressive introduction. The third essay is a bit dicey; a third person perspective in an application can so easily lead to confused (and confusing) essays, especially for senior management professionals who have been away from academia for ages.

ISB PGPMAX Essay 1. What has been your most significant achievement to date? Please explain why you consider it to be so? (500 words)

ISB PGPMAX Essay 2. What is your motivation to pursue a Post Graduate Program in Management for Senior Executives? (500 words max)

ISB PGPMAX Essay 3. You have been asked to be a part of ISB's PGPMAX admissions committee. What are the criteria for selection you would use to admit participants to this programme and why? (500 words max)
